As I continue researching which travel trailer Tammy and I will ultimately buy, one of the models that stands out is the Lance 1685. In this review, I will go over this model and tell you why it is suitable for us (and maybe for you).
The Lance 1685 is a lightweight travel trailer with a sleeping capacity of 5. It is not overly large, only 21 feet in length and 96-inches in width, which makes it perfect for towing with a full-size SUV.
The Gross Vehicle Weight Rating is 5,500 lbs, so you will need a pick-up such as the Toyota Tundra or a full-size SUV like the Pathfinder Armada, our preferred vehicle.

The inside of the Lance 1685 appears to be roomy. The interior height is 78-inches, and the space looks very well-design.
On some travel trailers, the bathroom door will not open all the way when the slide-out is in. That is the not the case with the Lance 1685. Below is the floorplan.
The Lance 1685 floorplan is the perfect layout for us. Towards the front end of the camper, you will find a real queen-size bed.
There is a headboard with room to place your phone or book at night. Above the bed is storage for pillows and blankets if needed.
The dinette is part of the slide-out on this travel trailer. Extended, you gain floor space around the kitchen area, which is good.
The dinette converts into a bed. This is one of the features I liked since we expect our two granddaughters to tag along occasionally.
One thing to note is that the dinette bed supports most folks but can creak a bit for larger folks. Keep that in mind when contemplating this travel trailer.
Each seat of the dinette has a sliding storage drawer. I think it’s a nice feature to have and will let us store coloring books and other small things in there. I think the grandkids will sleep here just comfortably.
The interior of the Lance 1685 is available in 3 colors; Midnight, Passage, and Roadster.
The galley on the Lance 1685 is one of my favorites so far. You will find a six cubic-feet refrigerator with stainless steel doors to the left.
The range is a stainless steel 3-burner range with a range hood with light, fan and back splash. A microwave is optional on this model and a 3-burner high output range with an oven.
The sink in the galley is large and has a pull-out spray faucet and a sink cover. Above the sink, you will find a single door cabinet above the sink and a double door cabinet below the sink.
This provides some good storage space close to the galley.
The bathroom on the Lance 1685 is one of the most exciting features. Most small travel trailer have what’s called a wet bath.
A wet bath is basically a toilet and a shower head in one enclosed unit. The 1685 model has a dry bath. A dry bath has a toilet and a separate shower or a tub-shower combination.

The Lance 1685 travel trailer has many standard features that mimic what you’ll find in luxury travel trailers. that mimic what you’ll find in luxury travel trailers.
One of the more important features for us is that they use Azdel composite panels in their construction.
They do use the aluminum frame as opposed to Northwood, which uses a steel frame (I will be looking at Northwood in another article).

Based on my review, the Lance 1685 is a great lightweight camper suitable for couples and/or a small family.
I liked the interior design and their choice of material. The galley is a nice size, and the dry bath is one of the things I like and need in any camper we choose to buy.
